Testosterone – It’s not just a man’s hormone!
Testosterone is one of the many hormones made by men and women.
Hormones are chemical substances made by organs and delivered to many places throughout the body. They regulate energy, mood, reproduction, metabolism, and almost every bodily function.
In a woman testosterone is made, primarily, by the ovaries but also by the adrenal glands. It affects energy, mood, sex drive, muscle mass, etc. It can be measured through either a blood or saliva sample.
On average, by the time a woman is 40 years of age, she only circulates half of what she did when she was twenty. Symptoms may include fatigue, less libido, increased depression, less strength, etc.
Testosterone for women, is not made by any pharmaceutical company but, can be made by compounding pharmacists. They can obtain FDA approved powders and make them into gel, cream, sub-lingual or fused pellet forms. They are bio-identical, or structurally identical, to the testosterone women used to make.
Over the last 20 years, as I’ve provided healthcare to women, I have repeatedly seen the benefits of testosterone therapy. They include improvement in energy, mood, outlook on life, muscle mass, strength, and libido. If you are having any of these issues, you owe it to yourself to be evaluated, and treated by, a provider that specializes in bio-identical hormone therapy.
At Associates in Women’s Care, we have an in-office phlebotomist, Monday through Friday. We will order the levels and interpret the lab results. We provide prescriptions for topicals, sub-linguals, and we also insert bio-identical fused pellets.
