An endometrial ablation is a simple procedure that can be performed in the office to decrease heavy menstrual flow. In some cases this is an alternative for women to a hysterectomy. We offer our patients undergoing this procedure, the comfort of IV sedation which is provided by a board certified anesthesiologist.
To perform an ablation, a wand is introduced through the cervix into the uterine cavity. A mesh is then opened and molds to the contours of the uterine cavity. During the next 60 to 90 seconds a radio frequency energy is passed through the mesh which cauterizes the lining of the uterus. The mesh is then removed from the cavity. The majority of women that undergo this procedure will have a significant decrease or even elimination of their menstrual bleeding. The vast majority will return to normal activities by the next day.
